End of Summer

Where did all the time go? It sure seemed longer than last year because I taught summer school last year, but it still zipped by pretty fast. I just got through typing all my students' names into the computer. I am excited, but a bit nervous. I have quite a few students whose sibling I've already taught. I should know about what to expect from them. So, it shall be interesting. Let's see if I can get some photos posted from this summer. I don't have hardly any of volleyball, which I play a ton of... so bear with me.

Trying New Things

I don't really like to try new things. But when a 2-for-1 coupon comes around, I like to try something new - 'cause I know it's not going to cost me as much. This was my thinking when I tried going to Pasterero restaurant on Friday. I thought for $6.49 I'd try their ensalada. After all, I had the salads at Cafe Rio and at Bajio and loved them both. I ordered take-out and left to go give Ron his order since he was subbing at my school. Can I just say one thing: DISAPPOINTMENT! Wait - there was anger too. I was angry. I had told them NO ONIONS - and the salad was FULL of onions - took me forever to pick them all out - over 1/2 cup of onions, maybe even closer to a full cup. NASTY! I had the pork in it and it looked and tasted more like bacon bits - NOT impressed! Plus the salad was made from Iceberg Lettuce. White lettuce. . . really? I was totally disgusted. Before I left, I did think that they were supposed to put chips on top, so I went back for that. However; I didn't catch the fact that I wasn't given any Ranch dressing. So it was double nasty - no dressing and tons of onions. I imagine it was better for me. But I learned something - I've been spoiled by Cafe Rio and Bajio - cause their salads and meat are AMAZING! But DON'T go to Pasterero for a salad. EVER!!! Ron said he liked his - Alambre or something like that. But I won't be going there anytime again. End of story!

Productivity

So I like to feel productive - and any day when I'm not is a sad day - or lazy day - or sick day. I had a nasty cough/cold for a while, but now I'm doing much better. So on to yesterday. Was I productive? Went to basketball about 30 min. late (hate the 8 am start time). Note to self: change the start time for next year back to 8:30 instead of 8 - NO EXCEPTIONS! Then practicing piano and on to piano lessons. I was planning on playing volleyball - but the stake center wasn't available. My volleyball friends were busy anyways. Uggghhh!
I decided to take care of more of Kayla's girl scout cookies. Waiting on Kayla to clean out her rabbit cage, then she had to make calls and then on to deliveries...but having a fried egg for lunch in there as well. Then getting orders together and stocking the van with the cookies. While out delivering I decided to try some houses in the same neighborhood - waste of time! No new customers were found. So now we will wait until March 12th to do a booth. I would like to go back to 500 N. 100 E. where tons of customers come around. We sold so much when we were there. It is soooo much easier than trying to sell door to door. What a pain that is! But we still have probably over 400 boxes left. If we sold 50 boxes an hour, how long would it take to sell all the cookies. About 8 hours... look at this. I just came up with a good proportion problem for my students - how good am I? hee hee. Yes, I have to toot my own horn sometimes.
So now we only have one or two deliveries left. One guy was supposed to come and pick his order up and never showed. Is it worth it to drive to PG? I'm not sure where the guy lives there. Hopefully we will hear from him tomorrow.
I picked up a movie "The Time Traveler's Wife". I watched it with Ron. But in the middle, Ron had to go over to his dad's house to pick up Devin - since Devin had gone skiing with grandpa. Kayla went with him and they picked up hot dogs and pizza at Costco. Ryan and I stayed home so that I could shower and he could help the "guy" that was supposed to come to our home sometime to pick up his cookie order. So "dinner" was kinda taken care of. I reserved Ponyo for Kayla and Devin. Then Kayla invited some friends over to watch it at 7 pm.
I got a text from a friend saying they needed a 4th for volleyball and was I interested? What? Of COURSE I'M INTERESTED! So at 8 pm I left to go play volleyball. But one lady was kinda loopy and sick and played awful! I drafted Ron to come and we had a good time. Ron got better as the games went on. I was glad he was available to do that. I just wish I hadn't wasted my time showering. So alas, I must do so today. Church at 2 today! Yuck ... can I just say that again..YUCK! I HATE having church at 2! How many more weeks left? 43! So I FINALLY felt happy for the day and PRODUCTIVE! Volleyball is the bomb! Now I know how Tonia feels when she runs. It's basically the same for me. I have a more positive outlook when I play. I'm a happier person after I've played. My mood changes drastically! It's all for the better. So when I get the chance to play, Ron ALWAYS says, go! He knows what it means to me.
Now that I've gotten WAY off the subject, let's get back to being productive. I like to get things done. I can't stand lying around the house (for too long anyways). I've been making bread a lot lately. Hmmm, I really want to make some now, even if it is fast Sunday. Is that bad?
I've played a lot of volleyball. I've been making flower bows for Kayla and myself (and still need to do more). But when even some get done, it feels good. I've just started playing, "Praise to the Man" on the piano. I love that song, and it feels great to be doing so well at it. Okay, so I can't play both hands together yet, but they sound pretty good separately at the moment.
That's enough for one time, right! I'll try to be more "productive" with my blogging in the future. Hope you all enjoy reading!

Christmas & Beyond

Hope you're all having a Great Day! It is the day of the Lord. It is his birthday. Have you given him anything? What would he like from you? What a question to ponder. For me, maybe to be a little more patient (in ALL things.) A bit more loving (I'm a nonhugger and need to GET OVER IT!) A bit more cleaning and organizing... well, I better stop there, that should give me enough to work on for the new year.

A side note: I hate to waste things. AND I always seem to waste food/candy given to me this time of year. So I've thought of some of the top things given to me by neighbors and some of the bottom things given to me this year.

Top of the list:

1) Sprite and Popcorn - because you can use them whenever you want and they store VERY well for a month or so for whenever you are in the mood. (Plus I gave these out this year, so they HAVE to be high on the list!)

2) The home-made orange rolls - made so light and fluffy that you could eat them anytime day or night and they were all gone in a matter of minutes (still waiting on the recipe).

3) Apple Pie Filling in a canned jar (or anything canned that can be used later). Again I wouldn't want to be forced to eat something that I didn't want right away. This could last for months and still be good! I LOVE APPLE PIE, but may not want to make it over the holidays.
Bottom of the list:

Bottom of the List

1st Worst: Sugar cookies with jam in them. A neighbor gives this EVERY year, and they are nasty. She is a very sweet person, but I even tried to give them away to volleyball friend's kids, but even they said the jam in the middle was Terrible! Great Lady, bad treat. How to tell them without hurting feeling... I can't think of any, so if you know them, I said NOTHING! (say nothing like Shultz in Hogan's Heroes.)

2nd worst: Hard Rice Krispie Treats. Got some from a neighbor that were nastier than the ones my daughter had made a week before in school that she left in her backpack. I think my dogs could use them to shine their teeth with. I'm thinking her kids made them. Hmmmmm...

3rd worst: crackers and dip - Now I have to be in the mood for this. I wasn't when we first got them, so they sat on the table for 2-4 days, who knows? I was finally in the mood for them yesterday, but the crackers had gone soft. Who knew that if you left the dip with the crackers that the crackers would go soft. Oops... lesson learned. Wonder if I will remember it for next year.

Anyway, again these are wonderful people. I hate wasting food, but what else can you do? Oh, I have some dark bananas and better get to making banana bread. You all have a fantastic day!

Kayla Enjoying the Warmth

This is another favorite picture of Kayla. The beach is so serene. Kayla looks at peace (yes this was moments before she stood up and cut her toes on some glass). She is enjoying the beautiful weather and looks calm cool and collected.
